Concealed lightning protection
Concealed and commercial lightning protection systems
Full lightning protection with almost nothing to see. Conductors run under the roofing and inside the walls, and only small air terminals show on the roof line.
A concealed system works exactly like an exposed one. The difference is where the cable goes: instead of running across the roof and down the outside walls, the conductors are installed under the roofing material and inside the walls or chases, so the finished building looks clean.
The best time to conceal a system is during construction or a re-roof, at the dry-in stage, before tile, shingles or metal go on. That is why we work closely with builders and roofers on concealed jobs.
Who chooses a concealed system
- Custom homes where the roof line matters
- Offices, retail, churches and schools that want a clean exterior
- Tile and metal roofs going on during new construction or a re-roof
- Historic or high-end buildings where visible cable is not acceptable
Commercial lightning protection
Commercial buildings often have flat or low-slope roofs with rooftop HVAC units, vents and parapets. We lay out air terminals across the roof field and at the edges, bond the rooftop equipment into the system, and run the down conductors inside the structure where the building allows it.
Every concealed and commercial system is designed and installed to UL 96A and NFPA 780, and inspected after installation to confirm every hidden connection is made.
How it goes
From estimate to inspection
- Plan with your builderWe lay out the conductor path before the roof and walls close up.
- Rough-inConductors and connections go in at the dry-in stage, under the roofing.
- FinishAir terminals mount on the finished roof with clean flashings.
- InspectThe system is checked so every concealed connection is confirmed.
Not ready to hide the cable? Standard lightning rod installation protects the same way with the conductors on the outside. Building new? Plan it with our new construction lightning systems service, and check your lightning risk before you call.

Concealed Lightning Protection FAQ
Is a concealed lightning protection system as effective as an exposed one?
Yes. It uses the same parts and the same standards. Only the conductor route changes, so the system is hidden from view.
Can a concealed system be added to an existing building?
Sometimes. It is easiest during new construction or a re-roof. On a finished building we look at attic and wall access and tell you what can be hidden and what cannot.
